BOSS NMOP RECOVERY SCHEME IN NOTTS

30/06/2009

Thieves cost UK petrol retailers £30 million every year by deliberately not paying for their fuel. They are now the target of a new scheme launched by the British Oil Security Syndicate (BOSS), in partnership with Nottinghamshire Police.

Nottinghamshire Police has partnered with BOSS and its members to trial a pioneering No Means of Payment (NMoP) loss recovery scheme across the county. It is intended that this scheme will be rolled out across the 70 existing Forecourt Watch schemes already operating throughout the UK.

Kevin Eastwood, executive director of BOSS, says: “Drive-offs and No Means of Payment incidents cost the UK petrol industry approximately £30 million every year. By building successful partnerships with local police, petrol retailers and other agencies through initiatives such as the BOSS No Means of Payment and Forecourt Watch schemes, we are able to prevent, deter, and pursue criminals on petrol forecourts. Our aim is to maintain petrol stations as a safe environment for customers and staff. ”

The new NMoP scheme is designed to be as efficient as possible for those customers who find themselves in the embarrassing position of having no immediate means to pay for their fuel. However, motorists who deliberately fill up at petrol stations with no intention of paying will be pursued on behalf of retailers until payment is recovered.
